Author: Raina Telgemeier

genre: graphic novel,realistic fiction

Smile is about a sixth grade girl and she has an overbite so she all ready has to get braces. One night she falls and several of her teeth fall out. She has to go to school and live through the drama of people making fun of her. She also has to go to many orthodontist appointments. Her girls scout friends gave her a fashion makeover. She didn’t like it very much but since her birthday was coming up, she was pleading her mom for earrings and her mom finally said yes. Raina was so excited when she got them. Her mom was not a big fan of her pierced ears. She goes through boy trouble at school but she finds this nice boy that plays the same instrument as her at school but he is a little bit younger than her and they go to the dance together. Raina suffers a lot of hard times but in the end she is fine.

I would give this book five stars because I loved hearing about drama and I always love problems in a story. I love graphic novels.
