Anne of Green Gables

January 14, 2013 · 3 Comments · Chapuis' Challengers

Author: Lucy Maud Montgomery

Genre: Realistic Fiction

Summary: Anne, a girl from an orphan asylum who has a huge imagination is sent to Avonlea to wait for Matthew Cuthbert to pick her up. But what she doesn’t know as she sits on the train station bench, is that the Cuthberts don’t want a girl! They wanted a boy to help Matthew with the work. When Marilla Cuthbert finds out, she doesn’t know what to do! When she plans to take Anne back to the asylum, she finds out that a lady named Mrs. Blewett needs a girl to help out with her children and Anne would go there. Marilla doesn’t want to keep Anne but doesn’t want Anne to be worked to hard by strict Mrs. Blewett! And on the other hand, Matthew would rather keep Anne than any other boy or girl!

Recommendation: I give this book a 5 star rating because I really like realistic fiction and the descriptions make you imagine the book so well. I recommend this book to people who like the Secret Garden and A Little Princess by Frances Burnett Hodgson

A+ for reading the classics! Did you catch the part in The Willoughby’s when they mentioned Anne of Green Gables…. “an old-fashioned girl”?
